GEOPOMONA Waste Management Company’s door-to-door refuse collection is making a huge difference in Harare’s Mbare high-density suburb, where waste management had become a huge challenge.
Mbare residents last witnessed the service some years ago, and heaps of uncollected garbage had become an eyesore, inflicting frequent communicable diseases such as cholera.
The introduction of door-to-door refuse collection by GeoPomona Waste Management Company in Mbare has confirmed the government’s inclusive approach to service delivery.
“This is really commendable because we have not seen waste collection trucks in Mbare for a long time, so to see them conducting door-to-door service is a big honour for us,” a Mbare resident said.
“We were used to uncollected waste, which caused a lot of diseases, hence we feel that we have been granted a good service that improves our living conditions,” another added.
GeoPomona Waste Management Company has deployed skip bins in and around Harare to deposit waste before collection, while the company is set to receive another batch of refuse collection trucks to increase operational capacity.
“Our service is cutting across all neighbourhoods in Harare, including in Mbare, where the place has been neglected for a very long time. We must make a positive impact to the capital city and at least come up with a Sunshine City. Let me also take this opportunity to inform the public that in a few weeks, we will receive another batch of trucks that we hope will also improve our capacity to cover as many areas as possible in Harare,” GeoPomona Waste Management Company’s Executive Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Dilesh Nguwaya said.
The GeoPomona Waste Management-led refuse collection in Harare has transformed the face of the capital city, while its waste management plant is set to generate electricity from collected garbage.
