ZIMBABWEAN artists will take the stage alongside visiting French musicians as Francophone Week brings a celebration of language and cross-cultural exchange to the capital.
The event, observed in over 29 countries, runs from last Saturday through March 22, promoting the French language while highlighting the diversity of Francophone cultures.
In Zimbabwe, the programme features educational activities for students learning French, including competitions and interactive sessions aimed at increasing engagement with the language among young people.
Music will be at the forefront on Saturday during the Mix Concert, where Zimbabwean performers, including Mokoomba, will collaborate with a French accordionist in a cross-cultural performance that blends diverse musical styles.
“Francophonie is the celebration of the French language, but also the richness and diversity of cultures from Francophone countries. The idea is really to bring people together and create exchanges through music, film, comedy and food. Music will take centre stage on Saturday, March 14, with the Mix Concert. It is always a concert where we mix influences, a real cross-cultural vibe. This year, we invited a French accordion player who will collaborate with many Zimbabwean artists, including Mokoomba, Nasibo, and Trust Samende.”
The public can also look forward to film screenings, comedy shows, and visual art exhibitions, which will showcase cultural expressions from Francophone countries alongside Zimbabwean art.
