BINGA District in Matabeleland North has recorded a significant rise in tourism in 2025, with local operators attributing the growth to major festivals and the district’s unique natural attractions.

Industry stakeholders report that the surge is revitalising the local hospitality sector, with increased visitor numbers noted across lodges and recreational sites.

“The increase was largely driven by festivals such as the Binga Marathon and those organised by the Mama Susan Foundation and BaTonga community. These activities continue to attract people to our destination alongside other attractions in Binga, such as the Sand Beach and Hot Springs,” Melody Manyenyeni, Director of Twice Happy said.

Zilongezyo Muzamba, Director of BaTonga Villa, highlighted the strong performance during specific events.

“We have actually been seeing good numbers on most days, especially during the Kasambabezi Marathon. We also had good numbers during the cultural festival. Clients want to see the Sand Beach, go for a cruise and experience the culture, and this has created a steady inflow of tourism clients in 2025.”

Teresa Leach, Chairperson of the Binga Tourism Association, confirmed that 2025 has outperformed 2024 in terms of tourist activity and lodge occupancy.

“Comparing 2025 to 2024, it has actually been a better year for tourism because lodge occupancy has been much better. We have had a marathon and a cultural festival that boosted our occupancy. It has been much better, and we are hoping for the best for next year,” she stated.

Beyond cultural events, Binga continues to attract visitors with its natural assets, including its white sand beach, fishing opportunities, and famed hot springs, further cementing the district as a key destination in Matabeleland North.
