ZIMBABWE is embracing the digital era, with the Online Border Management System being rolled out in a phased approach starting this January to expedite immigration processes in the country.

The Online Border Management System (OBMS) represents a significant leap forward for Zimbabwe’s border management.

It’s a testament to the government’s commitment to providing a seamless and secure travel experience for all in line with the aspirations of Vision 2030.

It is envisaged that the entire country will be linked to the OBMS by the end of 2024, streamlining border processes and making life easier for travellers.

Chief Immigration Officer Ms Respect Gono said, “Going into 2024, the Department of Immigration is set to roll out an Online Border Management System and the government signed the contract with the service provider this December. The government has already identified a suitable service provider and signed a contract and, other things being equal, we expect the system to be running starting this January starting with major border posts.”

OBMS will speak to other government departments, banks, hotels and some international organisations such as Interpol.

“The new system is envisaged to drastically transform the delivery of migration services throughout the whole country as it will come with a cocktail of functionalities that will improve our efficiency including e-gates, online visa application, improved security and others,” she added.

The Online Border Management System is expected to attract more visitors and businesses, boosting tourism and trade through quick processing and reduced congestion.
