THE Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season enters Match Day Two this weekend with the highly anticipated Battle of Zimbabwe between Dynamos and Highlanders set to headline proceedings at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.
For decades, the clash between the two giants of Zimbabwean football has been a symbol of national pride. However, this season’s edition arrives unusually early in the campaign, taking place in the second week of the league programme.
Dynamos will be looking to build on their opening 2-1 victory over TelOne as they aim to maintain early momentum.
Highlanders, meanwhile, are searching for their first win of the season after settling for a 1-1 draw against Bulawayo Chiefs F.C. in their opening match.
Dynamos head into the contest strengthened by new foreign signings from West and Central Africa, including Ghanaian right-back Christopher Nakai Netty, who joined the club to bolster the defence following the departure of former captain Emmanuel Jalai.
Historically, Highlanders have enjoyed a slight edge in recent encounters. In their last 10 meetings, Bosso have won four times while Dynamos have managed one victory, with the remaining matches ending in draws.
The rest of the fixtures for match-day two are equally intriguing with defending champions Scottland F.C. hosting Ngezi Platinum Stars F.C. at Rufaro Stadium on Friday.
Saturday fixtures will see MWOS F.C. take on TelOne at Ngoni Stadium.
Simba Bhora F.C. will host FC Hunters at Wadzanai Stadium, while FC Platinum clash with Manica Diamonds F.C. at Mandava Stadium.
Elsewhere, ZPC Kariba F.C. face newly promoted Hardrock F.C. at Nyamhunga Stadium.
In Bulawayo, Chicken Inn F.C. take on Triangle United F.C. at Barbourfields Stadium, while CAPS United F.C. meet Herentals F.C. at Rufaro Stadium.
Match Day Two concludes on Sunday with Agama F.C. facing Bulawayo Chiefs at Wadzanai Stadium.
