PREPARATIONS for Zimbabwe’s 63rd Africa Day commemorations are underway, with resident diplomats emphasising inclusivity and the celebration of the continent’s rich diversity and shared aspirations.

The African Diplomats Oversight Committee launched the preparations on Wednesday, engaging with the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) to coordinate this year’s activities.

African diplomats in Harare have convened to finalise arrangements, with a programme designed to highlight Africa’s unity, culture, and development milestones.

“African Day has consistently been commemorated in a spirit of unity, solidarity and partnership between African diplomatic missions and the Zimbabwean authorities. This year’s celebration is set to be more vibrant ,inclusive and impactful, reflecting the rich diversity and shared aspirations of the African continent,” Chairperson of Oversight Committee, His Excellency Radhud Mohammed Abdulwahid said.

“This year’s events will showcase our diversity as Africa, and the idea is to have this decentralised in different areas of the country and beyond,” Algerian Ambassador to Zimbabwe His Excellency Mohammed Seoufi said.

Diplomats stressed the critical role of ZBC in amplifying Africa’s cultural heritage and promoting continental unity.

“It marks our continental spirit and also the implementation of the establishment of the African Union organisation. Now the African union, so we look forward to having a very successful event this year and memorable activities that will be in the memory of all the young people and all the society, all the people of Zimbabwe. And we also would like, more importantly, we would also like to thank ZBC for the cooperation. And for supporting our efforts and making all these activities visible to the Zimbabwean population,” Egyptian Ambassador to Zimbabwe His Excellency Maha Kamel said.

Africa Day is traditionally marked by celebrations of unity and solidarity among African nations, and this year’s 63rd commemorations are no exception.
