ZIMBABWE will look to edge closer to the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup when they take on Australia in a pivotal Group match this Friday.

The Chevrons go into the encounter high on confidence following their opening victory over Oman, a result that has strengthened belief within the camp that progression to the next round is firmly within reach.

Head coach Justin Sammons says the group remains finely balanced, placing emphasis on consistency and composure in decisive moments.

“It is a group that gives us a real chance of getting through to the Super 8,” Sammons said. “Every team poses a threat and it is going to come down to winning crucial moments in games.”

A positive result against Australia would significantly enhance Zimbabwe’s qualification prospects and potentially put them in control of their own destiny in the race for the Super 8.

While Australia present a formidable challenge, Zimbabwe have history on their side. The Chevrons stunned the cricketing world at the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 when they defeated Australia by five wickets, a reminder that upsets are possible on the global stage.

Friday’s clash therefore carries added significance, as Zimbabwe seek not only revenge and momentum, but a decisive stride towards the Super 8.
