Chevrons eye long-term growth despite tough results

THE Zimbabwe national cricket team, the Chevrons, are looking beyond immediate results, with the players confident of reaping the rewards of playing against quality opposition.

Zimbabwe are in the middle of a limited overs series against fourth ranked Sri Lanka after playing Test matches against World test champions, South Africa, second ranked England, and the mighty New Zealand.

The results have not been in their favour, losing against all the quality opposition.

In the just ended One Day International series, Zimbabwe lost both matches to Sri Lanka, but are taking comfort from scoring close to 300 runs and taking the match to the final over.

“The matches we have played have built us as a team, yes, we did not win, but we are seeing the results inside the changing room and we just need to keep at it, then the wins will come,” said Chevrons batsman, Ben Curran.

“Everyone in the team knows their role and it’s about executing those roles, and we have learnt that a slight deep off can be lethal at their level, so we need to keep at it,” noted Chevrons stand-in captain, Sean Williams.

Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka will shift their focus to the T20 format, which begins this Wednesday at Harare Sports Club.
