The ruling FRELIMO’s Daniel Chapo has been sworn in as the 5th President of Mozambique at a ceremony held in Maputo this Wednesday.
The event was attended by several Heads of State and Government, former Mozambique Presidents, dignitaries and thousands of Mozambicans.
Zimbabwe was represented by Defence Minister Honourable Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri on behalf of the SADC chairperson, President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Hon Muchinguri-Kashiri was accompanied by Zimbabwe’s top envoy to Mozambique, Ambassador Victor Matemadanda.
In his inaugural speech, President Chapo promised to take Mozambique to great heights through robust economic turnaround strategies and unlocking Mozambique’s vast economic opportunities in natural gas, oil and mineral resources.
He added that his administration will look at responses to climate-related change challenges such as prolonged droughts and flooding.
