THE Second Republic is on a drive to improve the performance and service delivery of state-owned entities as the digitisation of public sector corporate governance systems begins.

The Corporate Governance Unit (CGU) Management Information System roll-out brought together various stakeholders in Harare this Wednesday, with a view to ensure efficiency in the manner in which public entities conduct their operations.

“As the end users, we are optimistic the new development will enhance our services while creating a systematic approach that serves the needs of the public, thereby creating renewed business confidence in the way we run or conduct our businesses,” ZBC’s Company Secretary, Mrs Patricia Muchengwa said.

“It is a noble idea coming at a time when service delivery is the driver of efficiency, so we anticipate the system to ensure smooth flow of information for the benefit of the end users,” CMED’s Company Secretary, Mr Oliver Chirongoma said.

Public entities have also been praised for their commitment to reforms aimed at easing financial dependency on the government.

“What we are seeing today is a historic event that dovetails with the need to enhance service delivery for the benefit of the citizenry, thereby creating efficiency as the public sector utilities play an important role in socio-economic development,” Secretary CGU in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Mr Allen Choruma stated.

Experts contend public entities are important for socio-economic development as they provide services such as health, education, infrastructure, transport and energy, among others.
