CCC attempts to resolve leadership vacuum

CCC attempts to resolve leadership vacuum

Story by Farai Gwaze

DRAMA in the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) continues to unfold, with a faction of the party having appointed Jameson Timba as the interim leader of the party after the resignation of Nelson Chamisa.

Party spokesperson, Promise Mkhwananzi addressed journalists in Harare this Sunday where he outlined the state of affairs in the party.

“The Citizen National Assembly convened and resolved the issue of the party’s leadership vacuum occasioned by President Chamisa’s resignation. Let there be no doubt that the party and its membership represented through its CNA has given tasks of managing the transition of the party to Senator Jameson Timba, who leads the administration bureau of the party,” he said.

Mkhwananzi warned that CCC legislators who decide not to respect the new leadership will be dealt with.

He added, “All party deployees in parliament have been called upon to cooperate and work with the stated leadership in executing the party’s legislative agenda and in advancing the interest of the citizens. Any acts of insubordination, sabotage and rebellion will be considered as an affront to the country’s democratic agenda and shall be meted with the relevant legal and political processes to ensure struggle discipline.”

It is however not clear if the latest development in CCC has the blessings of other party leaders, including interim Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu who effected several recalls on some party legislators late last year.
