CAPS United has taken a giant step towards revamping its fortunes by unveiling a newly assembled technical team, with Ian Bakala joining the club as assistant coach, while the new head coach is set to be revealed on Thursday.
With CAPS United sitting 15th on the log table with eight points from 10 games, the club is banking on the new technical team to turn their fortunes around.
Bakala, a former Green Machine midfielder, rejoins the club as an assistant coach, bringing his wealth of experience to the role.
The new setup comes after the club parted ways with the previous technical team, with former coach Lloyd Chitembwe being redeployed to the role of Technical Director, replacing Shakespeare Chinogwenya.
The club will announce the new head coach on Thursday.
“We want CAPS United to be a championship-winning team. We must be dancing with the African champions. That’s exactly what we want to do, and it’s achievable,” CAPS United Football Club president, Farai Jere said.
Chitembwe, the most decorated CAPS United player and coach in history, led the Green Machine to the league championship in 2016 and guided them to the group stages of the Champions League.
He will remain within the CAPS United setup in his new role as Technical Director.
The new set-up comes as the Green Machine will be up against Herentals this weekend.
