Zimtrade scans Ghanaian market for export opportunities

Story by Davison Vandira, Business Reporter

ZIMBABWE’s export promotion body, ZIMTRADE is organising an Outward Seller Mission to Ghana, designed to strengthen linkages between Zimbabwean companies and buyers in the West African country.

The mission is scheduled for next month and has seen Zimtrade undertake a pre-mission assessment of the market.

According to Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency, Mr Kufa Chinoza, the forthcoming mission complements the ongoing economic diplomacy efforts by the Government where the focus is on unlocking economic benefits from Zimbabwe’s stellar relations with countries on the African continent and beyond.

“This is a very welcome development in our re-engagement agenda and this will broaden our export horizon for enhanced economic growth towards the Vision 2030,” he said.

Zimtrade’s Export Promotion Manager, Mrs Vuyiswa Mafu says the focus on Ghana is in line with the National Export Strategy, which seeks to grow Zimbabwe’s exports to non-traditional markets.

“We are here in Ghana to make an in-depth analysis of the Ghanaian market ahead of the Outward Seller Mission to take place from the 27th to the 29th of March,” she said.

Ghanaian buyer, Mr Jerry Halm expressed his satisfaction with Zimbabwean products especially horticultural produce which he says are unique and will likely easily penetrate the market.

“As Ghanaian buyers, we have been charmed by what Zimbabwean products offer in terms of quality hence we are excited for the opportunity to interact,” he said.

Zimbabwe’s economic development matrix is underpinned by a vibrant export-led economy hence these outward seller missions play a pivotal role in the attainment of national economic objectives.
