SOUTHERN Region champions Bulawayo Chiefs are sharpening their preparations for next season’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) campaign as they head into the four-team Champions of Champions tournament set for Baghdad Stadium in Kwekwe this weekend.
The annual competition brings together the four regional champions, Bulawayo Chiefs (Southern), Agama (Northern), Hunters (Eastern), and Hardrock (Central) to determine the national champion across the Division One structures. For Bulawayo Chiefs, the tournament offers both silverware ambitions and a critical assessment platform ahead of their top-flight return.
Coach John Nyikadzino said the competition comes at the right time for his squad, which is rebuilding after earning promotion back into the PSL.
“It is good to have the four-team tournament. As southern region winners, we want to win and possibly utilise the tournament to assess our players as we intend to build for next season,” Nyikadzino said.
The club’s return to the Premier League, following their recent relegation, has added emotional weight to their campaign. Officials say the lessons of the past season have influenced a more disciplined and structured approach as they seek to avoid the missteps that led to their demotion.
