ZIMBABWE’S 2025 Grade Seven pass rate has marginally declined to 48.49%, a slight drop of 0.25 percentage points from last year’s 49.01%, according to results released by the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) on Friday.
In a statement, the examination body confirmed that learners can begin accessing their results from 1400 hours today via the ZIMSEC online portal, which will remain active for four days. After the portal closes, candidates will be required to collect their physical results from their respective examination centres.
“A total of 395 090 candidates sat for one to six subjects during the 2025 Grade 7 examinations as compared to 387 429 candidates who sat for the same examination in 2024, showing a 1.94% increase in candidature. Overall, the candidature increased across most subjects, except for slight declines in Kalanga and Nambya. The total number of candidates who sat for 6 subjects in the 2025 Grade 7 Examination session was 389 626. Of these 188 930 passed all 6 subjects, recording a national pass rate of 48.49%. This is a slight decline of 0.52% in candidates’ performance from the 2024 pass rate of 49.01%.,” the statement read in part.
ZIMSEC said school heads will be able to collect the official results slips from regional offices starting Monday, December 01.
“The examination results will be available online today, Friday, 28th of November 2025, from 1400hrs. Candidates’ results will be accessible to all candidates and authorised personnel through the ZIMSEC portal link https://results.zimsec.co.zw/ Candidates should enter their centre number, after which, they will be redirected to the portal where they can access their results. Please take note that the portal will be open for 4 days; thereafter candidates should access their results from their respective Examination Centres. Heads of Examination Centres are advised to collect their results from their respective ZIMSEC Regional Offices from Monday, 1 of December 2025,” ZIMSEC said.
A total of 201 842 female candidates sat for the 2025 Grade 7 examination, while there were 193 248 male candidates.
“Out of the 395 090 candidates who sat for the 2025 Grade 7 examination, 201 842 were female. Of these, 199 930 sat for 6 subjects, with 107 241 passing 6 subjects with Grade 6 or better, translating to a percentage pass rate of 53.64. There were 193 248 male candidates who sat for the 2025 Grade 7 examination, of which 189 696 wrote 6 subjects with 81 698 passing 6 subjects with Grade 6 or better. This translates to a percentage pass rate of 43.06 for male candidates,” read the statement.
According to ZIMSEC, special needs candidates registered a 6.72% pass rate increase.
“A total of 391 special needs candidates sat for between one and six subjects in 2025, compared to 329 in the previous year, representing a 15.85% increase in candidature. Of these, 230 candidates attempted six subjects, with 101 passing, resulting in a pass rate of 43.91%. This shows an increase of 6.72% when compared to the 37.19% pass rate in 2024,” the examination body added.
The release of the 2025 Grade 7 results marks another significant checkpoint for thousands of learners transitioning into secondary education across the country.
