THE people of Chivi in Masvingo province say they have lost a dedicated revolutionary and development champion in the national hero, Brigadier General Rtd Elasto Madzingira.
Brigadier General (Rtd) Madzingira’s body arrived at his rural home in Madzingira village of Chivi North this Tuesday morning, where it was received by senior government officials, relatives, and friends from across the Masvingo Province.
The local community indicated that despite the passing on of the national hero, his works will be remembered forever.
“We have lost as a community. He was a unifier and someone who wanted the development of his area,” said a community member.
Another said, “While this is sad in that Brig General (Retired) Madzingira has passed on his will be remembered.”
The Masvingo province leadership described the late national hero as a unifier and development champion.
ZANU PF Masvingo provincial chairperson, Senator Robson Mavhenyengwa said, “As ZANU PF, we have lost a unifier and someone who was dedicated to developing his country and community at large. As you heard from the family, he wanted to become a legislator despite his disability.”
“As Masvingo province, we have given him a good and respectful send-off and this is very important given his contract to the liberation and development of Masvingo,” said Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Cde Ezra Chadzamira.
The body of the late national hero was airlifted to Harare for burial at the national shrine this Wednesday.
