Bogus army officer arrested in Harare

Story by ZBC Reporter

A bogus army officer has been arrested in Harare on charges of impersonation and fraud.

The Zimbabwe National Army confirmed in a statement that Hardlife Nyoni (42), from Waterfalls, was arrested in Harare on Wednesday.

Investigations revealed that Nyoni, who is employed at Mkoba Teachers College as a general hand, was not a member of the army as he allegedly claimed.

It is alleged that Nyoni misrepresented that he could facilitate recruitment into the army and demanded money from job seekers.

One of the victims, from whom he allegedly demanded US$100, became suspicious and reported the matter to the Zimbabwe Military Police.

Upon his arrest, Nyoni was found in possession of various academic certificates and a pair of handcuffs, which he allegedly used to convince victims of his claims.

He has since been handed over to ZRP Harare Central for further management.
