More than 50 films are set to be screened at this year’s edition of the Zimbabwe International Film Festival which gets underway on Monday next week.

The week-long festival roars into life in Harare next Monday with film practitioners expected to interface and exchange notes on how to improve their productions.

Event organisers are confident of a memorable event with 56 films set to be screened throughout the festival.

“We had 3 100 submissions, so the selection team went through them and scaled them down to 56 films. Out of those we have 10 feature-length films and 13 documentary films and short films. Each day is going to be themed from where it is from. Apart from films, we have workshops. We have the closing night film Ingoda by Eddie Sandifolo and Joe Njagu. We have 21 categories where films will be awarded.

“Workshops will focus on music compositions for scoring in movies, we also talk about hair makeup and fashion for film. For us to match global standards we have to incorporate all those. So we want to know how to go about it while keeping our heritage. How we do our hair and make-up shouldn’t send the right message,” said Executive Director of ZIFFT, Solomon Maramba.

This year’s festival will also focus on music compositions, fashion, and make-up, which all contribute to quality productions.
