Government strengthens rural education through science labs and digital access

THE Second Republic is accelerating the transformation of rural education through the provision of science laboratories and internet connectivity, equipping learners with the skills required under Zimbabwe’s Heritage-Based Education 5.0 curriculum.

Swereki Secondary School and Jalukanga Primary School in Beitbridge District are among the latest beneficiaries, receiving a science laboratory, piped water and Starlink internet connectivity to enhance teaching and learning.

Learners and parents welcomed the developments, saying the facilities will improve access to quality education and research opportunities.

“The Starlink kit that we have received will help us as Swereki Secondary School learners to do our research and improve in our education,” said one learner.

“As Jalukanga Primary School learners, we are very grateful to receive this Starlink kit because it will help us in many ways towards our studies,” another learner said.

A learner added, “Network is a challenge in this area. We are receiving this kit from Government with great appreciation. Besides the Starlink kit, our school now has water and a poultry project.”

Another beneficiary said, “First we received this laboratory, and today we are glad because Government has also provided a Starlink kit.”

Parents said the investments will help prepare learners to contribute meaningfully to their communities.

“The development of rural schools will provide learners with skills to contribute productively to their communities,” said one parent.

Beitbridge West legislator Honourable Thusani Ndou said Government remains committed to extending digital infrastructure to more schools.

“We are continuing as Government to equip different schools. We started with Jopembe, Malala Secondary, Swereki, and today we are here at Jalukanga Primary School to hand over a Starlink kit so that learners can access the internet for school work,” he said.

Since 2017, the Second Republic has continued to roll out development projects in previously marginalised communities, in line with President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s policy of leaving no one and no place behind.
