CHAONA in Chiweshe, Mashonaland Central Province, came alive on Saturday as the country’s two leading radio stations, Radio Zimbabwe and National FM, hosted the second edition of the popular “Clash of Titans” event, attracting huge crowds from across the area.
The event showcased the immense popularity of the two stations, widely regarded as the most listened-to radio platforms in Zimbabwe, as thousands gathered to interact with presenters and enjoy a day of entertainment and community engagement.
Locals expressed excitement at the rare opportunity to meet some of their favorite radio personalities.
“This has never happened in our area and we are extremely happy. Seeing some of these personalities we hear on the radio made me very happy.”
Another attendee said the event helped listeners connect faces to familiar voices.
“I love both radio stations because they are very informative and entertaining. Some of us have never seen these presenters in real life and finally putting a voice to face is something we will always cherish.”
Others called for more such events.
“Hopefully, this will not be the last time we have such a programme. Combining the two stations to come here was a great idea, which we applaud. We had a great time today.”
The two radio stations pledged continued service to Zimbabwean communities.
Radio Zimbabwe Station Manager, Mr Sifelani Chikwape, thanked listeners for their unwavering support and reaffirmed the station’s commitment to serving communities across the country.
“As you can see here, these two radio stations command a huge following in the country. We are not oblivious to the support we get from the masses and for that, we are grateful.”
“We are happy with this turnout as a station. Our rivalry with our sister station, Radio Zimbabwe, is one that of synergies and we promise to continue educating and entertaining the masses of Zimbabwe,” National FM Chief Executive Producer, Clifford Baloyi stated.
ZBC expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who make such events a success, further opening the door for many more synergies in the future.
ZBC Radio Services Director, Mr Albert Chekayi, expressed appreciation to stakeholders who continue to support the initiative and indicated that more editions of the programme are in the pipeline.
“This is the second time we are having such a clash of titans show, after holding another in Svisva, three weeks ago. The response is overwhelming and we encourage those who have not come on board to do so and they will not regret getting into bed with the two biggest stations in the country.”
“The Clash of the Titans” event was one for the books, as Chaona villagers and those from surrounding areas also exhibited their impressive dancing skills.
The successful hosting of the second edition of the event further strengthened the bond between Zimbabwe’s national broadcasters and the communities they serve, while highlighting the enduring appeal of radio as a source of information, education and entertainment.
