Former opposition members back CAB3

FORMER members of opposition political parties have expressed support for Constitutional Amendment Number Three Bill, saying the proposed changes will help safeguard national stability and accelerate infrastructure development.

They cited ongoing progress in housing and road infrastructure as a key factor influencing their decision to endorse the Bill.

One of the returnees, Mr Paddington Japajapa, says the proposed legislative changes are essential pillars for the attainment of an upper-middle-income society by 2030.

“As returnees, we are in full support of the constitutional amendment number three bill supporting what government is trying to achieve in NDS2 and education five point zero, which will govern birth to vision 2030. The constitution belongs to us, and we are in support of the 21 sections which are there to improve the nation,” he said.

Mr Japajapa says the legal framework must speak to current policy shifts that create an enabling environment for local contractors to participate in the country’s development trajectory.

“I look at the Trabablas interchange, which was executed by local contractors. We are developing our country with our own resources, and we are doing it as indigenous Zimbabweans. As long as indigenous entrepreneurs are given opportunity we can do it . The President has given everyone an opportunity to participate in the mainstream economy. The conducive environment has been created,” he said.

Last month, parliament conducted public hearings across the country to gather public views on Constitutional Amendment Number Three Bill. The next stage will see the bill being tabled in parliament for debate.
