Chatunga Mugabe fined and deported after South Africa conviction

FORMER President Robert Mugabe’s son, Bellarmine “Chatunga” Mugabe, has been fined R600 000 and deported to Zimbabwe after being convicted and sentenced following a shooting incident in Johannesburg, South Africa, earlier this year.

His co-accused and cousin, Tobias Matonhodze aged 33, has been jailed for three years.

The duo appeared at the Alexandra Magistrates Court in Johannesburg this Wednesday, where, upon the verdict, the 28-year-old Bellarmine was taken to OR Tambo International Airport and deported.

Mugabe was initially charged with attempted murder but was eventually convicted early this month for pointing a firearm at a South African national and being in that country illegally.

Matonhodze, however, took the heavier blow after being convicted of attempted murder, defeating the course of justice, unlawful possession of a firearm and contravening the Immigration Act.
