THOUSANDS of prospective students have applied for enrolment into the nursing programme at the newly established Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa School of Nursing in Kadoma, as the selection process gets underway ahead of its official opening on May 4.
The selection process for the inaugural intake is now in progress, following an overwhelming response that has seen thousands of applications submitted for places at the institution.
The school is expected to contribute to the training of nurses and strengthening of the country’s health sector.
The institution is expected to enrol 20 students during the first intake.
Tutor-in-Charge, Ms Lusica Shumba, says preparations are now at an advanced stage, with the school poised to play a key role in training the next generation of healthcare professionals.
“Preparations for the opening of the school are now at an advanced stage, and we are ready to welcome our first intake of students. The presence of a fully equipped Muduvuri Pan African Hospital, with modern hospital machinery, gives our students a unique opportunity for hands-on training and practical exposure, which is critical in shaping competent and highly skilled nurses,” she said.
Philanthropist Mr Jimayi Muduvuri says the establishment of the school reflects a shared national responsibility to invest in the country’s future.
“It is the moral duty of every Zimbabwean to contribute towards building our country in line with the national mantra ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo’. This institution is part of that vision to invest in our health sector and empower future generations. Naming the school after Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa is in recognition of his leadership and unwavering commitment to the development of the health sector and human capital in Zimbabwe,” he said.
Meanwhile, the hospital has been named after the First Lady, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, in recognition of her commitment to advancing healthcare and community wellbeing in Zimbabwe.
