PREPARATIONS for Zimbabwe’s 46th Independence Anniversary celebrations are on track, with Vice-President, Colonel (Retired) Dr Kembo Mohadi expressing satisfaction following a final inspection of the venue in Matobo District this Thursday.
The national event, set to be held in Maphisa, has seen significant infrastructural development under the Government’s decentralisation programme.
“This is my last visit before the actual day and I have come to see how far we have gone and whether there are any areas that still need our attention. I have discovered that we have done quite a lot and I am sure by the time Independence Day arrives, we will be good to go. Save for roads, which have been given up to November to complete the rehabilitations, no project will be left incomplete. Everything is going to be in order,” he said.
The decentralisation of national events continues to drive development across provinces, with Maphisa emerging as a key beneficiary of legacy projects tied to the celebrations.
Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Zhemu Soda, said the area is now fully prepared to host the event, citing improvements in connectivity and social infrastructure.
“The site is now ready for the Independence celebrations. Connectivity has improved in the area and people will now be able to communicate using their mobile phones. Quite a number of schools were upgraded and, as the Ministry of Information, we are conducting awareness campaigns around this event in the area and across the country. A community radio station from here also received an uplift. We continue to give thanks to His Excellency for his mantra of leaving no one and no place behind,” he said.
This year’s celebrations will run under the theme: “ZIM@46: Unity and Development Towards Vision 2030.”
