Zimbabwe U15 teams set for stiff competition in CAF schools championships

HOSTS Zimbabwe have been handed a challenging draw for the CAF Schools Football Championships, with the tournament set to kick off in Harare next week.

The Zimbabwe Under-15 boys’ team will compete in Group A against Uganda, Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo, in what promises to be a highly competitive pool.

Group B features defending champions Tanzania alongside Zambia, Senegal and Benin.

In the girls’ category, Zimbabwe are also drawn in a difficult group, where they will face Morocco, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Defending champions Ghana headline Group B in the girls’ competition, which also includes Guinea, Tanzania and Burkina Faso.

The fourth edition of the continental tournament will run from the 6th to the 10th of this month at Gateway High School, with Under-15 boys’ and girls’ teams battling for top honours.

 

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.

 

Winners of the continental finals will receive US$300 000, while runners-up will earn US$200 000 and third-place finishers will take home US$150 000, underlining the high stakes of the competition.
