Australia series strengthens Zimbabwe’s World Cup preparations

ZIMBABWE is set to host Australia for a three-match One-Day International series in September, marking a significant milestone in the country’s sports diplomacy and cricket re-engagement efforts.

The tour will be Australia’s first visit to Zimbabwe in over a decade, with their last appearance on local soil dating back to a 2014 triangular series that also featured South Africa.

The return of one of cricket’s global powerhouses is a major boost for Zimbabwe Cricket, reflecting growing confidence in the country’s capacity to host high-profile international fixtures.

Zimbabwe’s renewed push to re-establish itself on the global cricket stage has gathered momentum in recent years. The Chevrons toured England last year for a one-off Test, their first in more than two decades, signalling a revival of top-tier international engagement.

Further strengthening this trajectory, India is also scheduled to tour Harare in July for a three-match T20 International series, adding to an increasingly competitive international calendar.

The upcoming Australia series is expected to play a crucial role in Zimbabwe’s build-up to the 2027 Cricket World Cup, which the country will co-host alongside South Africa and Namibia.

With top-tier opposition returning and international fixtures on the rise, Zimbabwe’s cricket resurgence continues to gather pace, offering renewed optimism for the sport’s growth and global competitiveness.
