THE Zimbabwe Under-19 men’s cricket team, the Young Chevrons, suffered a 114-run defeat to New Zealand Under-19s in a World Cup warm-up match at Masvingo Sports Club this Monday.
Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bowl, with New Zealand posting a commanding 332 for 9 in 46 overs.
Hugo Bogue led the Kiwi charge with a blistering 115 off 75 balls, striking thirteen fours and seven sixes.
For Zimbabwe, Shelton Mazvitorera claimed three wickets, conceding 56 runs in eight overs.
In reply, the Young Chevrons were bowled out for 218 in 40 overs, falling 114 runs short of the target.
Brandon Senzere top-scored for Zimbabwe with 66 off 83 balls, but his effort was not enough to close the gap.
The warm-up fixture provided valuable preparation for both sides ahead of the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Zimbabwe now turn their attention to their opening Group B match against Scotland at Takashinga Cricket Club this Thursday.
The tournament will be co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia from January 15 to February 6, with 16 teams competing for honours.
