Zimbabwe on course to surpass wheat production targets

ZIMBABWE is poised to surpass its wheat production targets this season, with the Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (ARDA) confirming that the country is firmly on track to consolidate its food self-sufficiency drive.

ARDA Chief Executive Officer, Tino Mhiko, told ZBC News this Thursday that harvesting of the authority’s contracted wheat is now in full swing, with preliminary assessments indicating that the 300 000 metric tonnes target is within reach and likely to be exceeded.

Nationally, Zimbabwe is projected to produce 600 000 metric tonnes of wheat this season, a figure exceeding the country’s annual requirement of 360 000 metric tonnes.
