A Bulawayo woman, Juliet Munetsi, is in hot soup after she was nabbed for allegedly smuggling drugs from South Africa.

Juliet Munetsi was arrested in Bulawayo on April 4 following a tip-off received by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Beitbridge regarding a bus allegedly transporting illegal substances from South Africa to Bulawayo.

During her initial appearance in court this Tuesday, it was submitted that police officers intercepted and searched the identified bus at the Beitbridge Border Post, discovering two unclaimed suitcases containing dagga and bottles of Broncleer, a cough syrup containing codeine, which is regulated in Zimbabwe.

Following this discovery, law enforcement agents conducted a controlled delivery operation in Bulawayo, where Juliet Munetsi was apprehended after she allegedly collected the two suitcases containing the drugs.

The value of the drugs is estimated at a street value of more than ZiG$185 000.

The prosecution argued against the granting of bail for the woman, citing the seriousness of the charges and the potential for the accused to abscond.

Munetsi will be back in court this Tuesday for bail hearing.
