THE Zimbabwe netball team technical department has gone for experience after naming a 15-member squad for the Celtic Cup slatted for Scotland next month.

After a rigorous three-week training camp, Coach Ropafadzo Mutsauki has trimmed down the 28-player pool to a 15-member squad dominated by veterans.

Captain Felistas Kwangwa a veteran of two World cups headlines the big names alongside Ursula Ndlovu and Sharon Bwanali.

Tafadzwa Mawango who was a non-playing member of the 2019 World Cup gets another chance to showcase her shooting prowess.

Elizabeth Mushore, all-rounder Nicole Muzanenhamo and Defence stalwart Assa Zimusi who all featured at the last Africa Cup and World Cup are also part of the cast.

Rising goal shooter Thandazile Ndlovu earns another call up to the national team together with Luya Anifa, Thandiwe Mashore and Faith Mutero who are set to bring youthful energy.

Veteran Blessing Kahari is excited to be back after missing recent tournaments over personal reasons.

“I’m overjoyed to be selected for the Gems’ Celtic Cup squad. It’s a dream come true! I’m eager to learn from the experienced players and give my all to help the team succeed. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase my skills and make a mark on the international stage,” said Kahari.

Captain Felistas Kwangwa is confident the team will deliver, with their eyes set on the 2027 World Cup.

She said, “We’ve worked tirelessly to prepare for the Celtic Cup. The new players bring fresh energy, and I believe our blend of experience and youth will propel us forward. Our goal is to qualify for the 2027 World Cup, and this tournament is crucial in our journey. We’re ready to face the challenges from Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, and make Zimbabwe proud.”

The Gems face stiff competition from European teams Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales in the four-nations tournament, running from the 7th to the 11th of November.
