SCHOOLS in Zvishavane District have been urged to join the digital bandwagon by embracing Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) to bridge the digital divide and pave the way for a fully digitalised economy.

As the nation journeys towards an upper middle-income society by 2030, the role of ICTs can not be overstated and the education sector is expected to set up a firm foundation hence the government and its development partners are making sure schools have the necessary tools.

Shabanie Mine and Mapazuli primary schools in Zvishavane are the latest to benefit after getting ICT gadgets this Thursday.

“We want to applaud the authorities for giving us these laptops because they will play a crucial role in our research,” said a learner.

Another added, “I am confident as a learner that this laboratory will help ease the challenges we encounter when we are researching, learning, and communicating with our peers.”

The initiative is set to play a key role in enhancing the implementation of the Heritage Based education framework.

“Through the provision of ICTs, competence-based education will be easier to complement. This will help our learners to be well equipped with new skills in the digital world. Through the ICT gadgets and computer laboratories, students are developing skills necessary for the modern workforce,” said Mr Ephraim Julias of Shabani Mine Primary School.

Midlands Minister of State For Provincial Affairs And Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube said, “In an endeavor to promote transparency, I have already done similar programmes in the province. We want to applaud the government’s stance of allowing the private sector to play a part in the development of the economy. This will play a key role in making the nation an information hub.”

The initiative is part of Zimbabwe’s broader e-learning drive to achieve a digital economy.
