The Zimbabwe Republic Police in the Midlands province has intensified campaigns on traffic and crime awareness during the festive period, imploring the public to be on high alert for possible mishaps associated with the season.
With massive deployments having been made across districts, the provincial police team is currently holding campaigns to conscientise the public on the new trends being used by robbers and thieves, while urging motorists to adhere to road rules during the holidays.
“We are encouraging motorists to avoid speeding and overloading. We are also impounding vehicles which are not fit to be on the road. We are encouraging our officers to deal with any defects. As you are aware, the festivities are associated with a lot of movement and we are encouraging the public to safeguard their properties as they go for holidays,” Kwekwe district Dispol, Chief Superintendent Enock Chishiri said.
ZRP Midlands spokesperson, Inspector Emanuel Mahoko noted,“We are saying the festive season is associated with a lot of activities. It is at this time that we need to engage our communities. We are saying when travelling, do not carry large sums of money. We are also saying no to drugs and substance abuse. We are also encouraging parents and guardians to monitor their children so that they do not get carried away with the party mood. We are also going to increase our deployments in all areas to provide safety for all and please cooperate with the police as they do their work.”
Meanwhile, police has also launched the House Under Supervision Scheme where people engage the ZRP to prioritise their houses for regular checks by police officers on duty.
