TWO Zimbabwe Republic Police(ZRP) officers have been arrested following a viral social media video in which they were allegedly recorded receiving bribes from pirate taxis and registered public service vehicles at the Mabvuku turn-off, along the Harare-Mutare road.

In a video circulating on social media, the duo is seen stopping motorists but instead of checking the vehicles, they take their time to greet every driver.

In the video, a male voice  is heard saying” it’s Saturday 2 November at Mabvuku turn off and the Police officers are taking money from Mushikashika”

The video has since set social media ablaze with people questioning the behaviour of the duo whose role is to ensure sanity on the country’s roads.

Following wide circulation of the video, the ZRP confirmed the arrest of the two suspects who were identified as Sergeant Chifamba and Constable Gunzva.

In a statement, the ZRP added the duo is also facing disciplinary and criminal charges, saying the Commissioner-General of Police does not condone corruption by any police officer and will ensure that the law takes its course without fear or favour.

The latest video has gone viral at a time when the nation is witnessing a surge in road traffic accidents with the public calling the ZRP to tighten screws on unscrupulous drivers.
