MATABELELAND NORTH – THE government has encouraged Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) officers to actively engage in income-generating projects at their establishments and contribute towards institutional self-sufficiency and economic growth.
This was emphasised during the graduation of 615 officers this Tuesday at the Ntabazinduna Training School in Umguza District, Matabeleland North Province, having completed various professional development courses.
The courses include basics in Stores and Supervisory Management, Security and Intelligence, Internal Police and Special weapon and Tactics.
Graduands highlighted that they are ready for a new chapter.
“I come from the San community and I am one of the officers who benefited from the President’s inclusivity policy, which aims to ensure that all communities take part in national development,” one officer said.
“I completed a management course, which I believe will enhance both my personal effectiveness and our organisation’s capacity to manage resources efficiently,” another remarked.
The Guest of Honour at the graduation ceremony, ZPCS Commissioner General Moses Chihobvu urged the graduating officers to embrace innovation, entrepreneurship and productivity as part of the ZPCS’s evolving mandate.
“While our core functions remain incarceration, rehabilitation and reintegration, we are evolving as an organisation. We are now prioritising productivity, innovation, and entrepreneurship to help us meet our objectives,” Dr Chihobvu said.
“I, therefore, urge you to engage in income-generating projects at your stations and contribute to economic growth and institutional self-reliance in line with the national mantra, ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo, Ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi balo’.”
The Second Republic continues to empower civil servants with monetary and non-monetary benefits including education so that they contribute towards the attainment of Vision 2030.
