ZIMBABWE Netball Association held trials this Saturday at Girls High School in Harare to refresh the under-21 team ahead of the African Qualifiers for the 2025 Youth World Cup set for Pretoria, South Africa next month.
Over 150 athletes from the country’s 10 provinces converged at Girls High School in Harare this Saturday to hone their skills, hoping to catch the attention of officials from the Zimbabwe Netball Association.
Coaches from the national teams, Premier Netball League and the Rainbow Amateur Netball League were on the ground to select players for the Zimbabwe national under-21 Netball team to take part at the African Qualifiers for the 2025 Youth World Cup set for Pretoria, South Africa next month.
“When we look at the under 21 teams this is our future Gems if you look at our last performances at the World Cup the team that made us qualify was the under 21 which qualified in Botswana in 2017 and they formed the bulk of our national team so if we take the step to the right direction we will be able to qualify,” said ZNA Technical Director, John Banda.
The trials will see the selection of 30 players who will troop in camp before a trimming exercise to come up with a final 15-member squad for the African Qualifiers that will take place from the 17th to the 24th of March.
The young Gems will be gunning for one of the four African slots at next year’s Youth World Cup set for Gibraltar.
