PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa says Zimbabwe is already in line with the African Union 37th ordinary session theme, ‘Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa’.

The President said this as he joined how fellow African leaders for the opening ceremony of the 37th ordinary session of the AU summit in Addis Ababa.

Though discussing several issues which include conflict resolution and climate issues among other issues affecting the continent, the focus for this year’s summit, which was captured in the theme ‘Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa’, saw most of the presentations touching on the need to focus on the continent’s education sector to ensure the continent future is in safe hands.

Speaking to the media after a meeting with President Filipe Nyusi on the sidelines of the summit, President Mnangagwa said for a long time Zimbabwe has been promoting innovation in the education sector and now Africa is catching up.

“We are ahead of the theme. For a long time now we have been promoting science and technology because every developed country is on the basis of promoting science and technology and now Africa is catching up,” he said.
