THE Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has pledged to continue maintaining peace and tranquillity in the country as espoused in the country’s development agenda.

This came out during the handover-takeover ceremony held at 5.1 Infantry Battalion at Battlefields near Kwekwe this Friday.

Five Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Lawrence Munzararikwa, who presided over the ceremony, underscored the need for military personnel to maintain peace and discipline towards the development of the nation.

“The nation expects us to maintain peace, discipline, and order, and it is in this regard that as the wall of the nation, let us execute our duties well. The President is on record that we should lead by example and let us be the shining example. I want to welcome the new commanding officer and always wish well the outgoing officer commanding.”

Outgoing 5.1 Infantry Battalion Officer Commanding, Lieutenant Colonel Trueman Nkiwane urged officers to join hands and work with the new leadership.

“We did many programmes in this area, and I am happy that the battalion has produced recognised military leaders, and I want to implore our officers to continue supporting the incoming officer commanding.”

In his acceptance speech, incoming 5.1 Infantry Battalion Officer Commanding Lieutenant Colonel Ngoni Jagada says he is equal to task.

“I am happy that I am leading a dedicated team with a good history, and as the incoming officer commanding of this battalion, I am ready to execute my duties diligently. I hope we will have a wonderful journey together.”

Lieutenant Colonel Jagada takes over command at the 5. 1 Infantry Battalion following the re-assignment of Lieutenant Colonel Nkiwane to another duty.
