AN eight-member delegation of Permanent Representatives to the United Nations has arrived in Zimbabwe for a high-level familiarisation tour aimed at strengthening international engagement and elevating the country’s global profile.

The delegation, drawn from member states including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Portugal, Austria and Trinidad and Tobago, is expected to hold engagements with senior Government officials and key stakeholders across multiple sectors.

As part of the programme, the envoys will tour strategic institutions such as the Zimbabwe National Defence University and the SADC Regional Peacekeeping Training Centre to gain insights into Zimbabwe’s contribution to regional and international peace support operations.

The itinerary also includes visits to key heritage and tourism sites, notably the Great Zimbabwe Monument and Victoria Falls, offering the delegation a broader appreciation of the country’s cultural heritage and natural attractions.

Government officials say the tour is designed to provide firsthand exposure to Zimbabwe’s peaceful and stable environment, as well as its sustained role in promoting international peace and security through multilateral cooperation.

The visit comes at a strategic time as Zimbabwe intensifies its campaign for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, with authorities aiming to leverage the engagement to boost confidence, attract investment and position the country as a premier tourism destination.
