GOVERNMENT is set to open a nursing training school at Plumtree Hospital, a development expected to create jobs and improve healthcare delivery in Matabeleland South.
The project is part of the National Development Strategy Two (NDS2), under which Government is expanding access to essential services in previously marginalised communities.
Matabeleland South Provincial Medical Director, Dr Andrew Muza said the new institution will strengthen healthcare delivery across the province.
“It is an important step towards creating jobs and improving healthcare delivery.”
Permanent Secretary for Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Mr Latiso Maseko Dhlamini said the development would create training opportunities for local youths.
“We are happy; this is giving children from here places at a local training school. With the provincial quotas of giving 75 per cent to locals, we know children from here will benefit immensely.”
Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Honourable Sleiman Kwidini, who toured the facility, said the nursing school will address a shortage of training institutions in the province.
“We will be setting up a nursing training school after realising also that Matabeleland South only has two such facilities in Gwanda and Maphisa. So, this is really an important intervention in terms of healthcare.”
The establishment of the nursing school forms part of Government’s efforts under NDS2 to strengthen healthcare services, expand training opportunities and improve access to quality health services as Zimbabwe works towards achieving Vision 2030.
