INDIAN ambassador to Zimbabwe His Excellency Bramha Kumar met Defence Minister Honourable Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri in Harare this Friday where it emerged the two countries are poised to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) next month.
The MOU is aimed at enhancing cooperation in defence and security, with particular focus on combating non-traditional warfare methods.
“The MOU will mainly focus on training programmes and will result in our officer receiving further training in India. I will be travelling to India next month to sigh the MOU. The main focus is modernising our defence system,” said Honourable Muchinguri Kashiri.
Ambassador Kumar indicated that the two countries will resume their joint commission and trade committee meetings with a view to reviewing areas of sectorial cooperation agreements.
“We have not had our meetings for a long time and we want to resume these meeting this year. We will be having different ministries in areas of defence, mining education,” he said.
Zimbabwe and India share bilateral relations in various sectors that include education and health through different institutional mechanisms and agreements.
