THE latest post-harvest survey carried out by the Zimbabwe Statistics Agency (ZimStat) shows the country is food sufficient, with available grain enough to cover the nation until the next season.

This was announced by the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere, during a post-Cabinet media briefing in Harare this Tuesday.

The Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Dr Anxious Masuka, said a fund will be set up to ensure farmers receive timely payments for grain deliveries.

Cabinet also noted the preparations for the Anti-Sanctions Day to be held on October 25, which will be headlined by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s address.

Cabinet further noted the positive impact made so far through the implementation of the Zimbabwe Industrial Reconstruction and Growth Plan, which has expanded the capacity of several sectors of the local industry.

The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Honourable Mangaliso Ndlovu, highlighted how the government seeks to finally nip smuggling in the bud in order to protect and grow local industry.

Cabinet also considered and approved the principles of the Small to Medium Enterprises Bill, which seeks to align the regulatory framework of small to medium enterprises with emerging global trends so that it meaningfully contributes to the country’s economic development.
