ZIMBABWE has expressed its readiness to host the SADC Employment, Labour and Social Partners Summit set for Victoria Falls from March 24 to March 26.
In a media briefing in Harare his Thursday, Public Services, Labour and Social Welfare Minister, Honourable Edgar Moyo revealed preparations for the summit are at an advanced stage.
“The government is doing its best to make sure that the Summit is a success. A lot of the SADC member states have also confirmed their intent to take part, which is a show of confidence in Zimbabwe. As a ministry, we are optimistic that the Summit will further position Zimbabwe as a shining example of productivity systems in the region,” he said.
The government is expecting the Summit to provide an opportunity for Zimbabwe’s industry and commerce to fine-tune strategies towards enhanced productivity.
“This is one of the major elements that serve to testify our intentions towards broadening the scope of productivity within the region, given the huge interest by the participants, it will be a worthwhile event towards further boosting industrialisation,” the Minister said.
The Summit is also expected to attract government officials from the regional block, economists, labour practitioners, and academia, among others.
The meeting will be held in line with the SADC principles towards business and trade integration among member states.
