HEZY Motors Logistics founder Hazel Silibaziso Mafu appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court on Saturday facing fraud charges linked to an alleged vehicle importation scam that reportedly prejudiced 79 complainants of nearly US$1 million.
The 35-year-old was arraigned on allegations of defrauding clients through a vehicle import scheme between 2022 and 2026.
The State alleges that Mafu advertised vehicle importation services through social media, electronic platforms and print media, claiming she had the capacity to source and deliver imported vehicles within agreed timeframes and at competitive prices.
The court heard that the advertisements attracted 79 clients, who paid varying amounts for the importation of motor vehicles.
The State further alleges that despite receiving the funds, Mafu failed to deliver the vehicles as agreed.
According to the prosecution, the total actual prejudice amounts to US$624 958.96 and ZiG$1275 878.35, with no recoveries made to date.
Mafu was remanded in custody and the matter was postponed to Monday for a bail hearing.
Police investigations are continuing.
