Zim and Russia strengthen ties through key trade talks in Moscow

FOREIGN Affairs and International Trade Minister, Professor Amon Murwira is currently meeting his counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow, Russia.

Professor Murwira and Lavrov are deliberating on trade opportunities between Zimbabwe and Russia in a number of fields to cement the excellent political ties between Harare and Moscow.

The meeting is expected to culminate in the signing of a joint declaration on the ways and means to counter, reduce and, rectify the adverse impact of unilateral oppressive measures brought by the imposition of sanctions.

Zimbabwe and Russia share a multi-faceted relationship that spans many years and is rooted in Zimbabwe’s struggle for independence.

Over the years cooperation has expanded beyond the political realm to include economic cooperation in mining, agriculture and, infrastructure development as well as cooperation in education.

On the international scene, both countries support each other in calling for the lifting of the unilateral coercive measures put in by the West with the Kremlin recently stating it will support Harare’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

Professor Murwira is accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Honourable Kudakwashe Mnangagwa.
