ZIMBABWE’s agricultural sector has taken a step forward with the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society (ZAS) signing two key agreements with the government to boost productivity and economic growth.

The partnership aims to strengthen farming value chains, enhance productivity, and promote skills development.

“ZAS has seen it more prudent to focus on the farming sector value chains riding on the farming sector growth and the need to boost production and scale up the needs of the economy, this is actually crucial taking into account what is happening in the economy whereby opportunities are being created to cement or bolster partnerships for the benefit of the overall value chains,” ZAS Chief Executive Officer, Mr Rufaro Gunundu said.

The government revealed commitment to working with the private sector in promoting agricultural production.

“It is mainly the key component of developing agricultural value chains that is crucial and that has brought us together today therefore, as the government we are more than willing to work with the private sector companies in sustaining the needs of the economy,” the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development, Professor Obert Jiri said .

Zimbabwe’s private sector led agriculture industry is premised on value addition, resource mobilisation,. human capital development, contract farming, exports growth, employment creation and economic development.
