BULAWAYO has become the latest province to benefit from the ZANU PF Women’s League hatchery project, an empowerment initiative aimed at fostering self-sustenance among women.
The programme was officially launched in the city this Friday by ZANU PF Secretary for Women’s Affairs, Cde Mabel Chinomona, who underscored the importance of economic independence and cooperation among women. During the launch, more than 1 000 chicks were distributed to women beneficiaries.
“As women, we should desist from a culture of relying on handouts. We should support each other as women and work together towards the attainment of the National Vision,” she said.
The Minister of State for Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Judith Ncube said the hatchery initiative will enable women to participate in mainstream economic development projects.
“This machine will help women do value addition,” she said.
Beneficiaries of the incubator training process hailed the ruling party’s commitment to advancing women’s empowerment.
“We want to thank Amai Chinonoma for this project. It will go a long way in empowering us,” a beneficiary said.
“As someone who is into poultry farming am over the moon today because we were being charged exorbitant fees by those who have hatching machines. I am happy to say that those days are over now as we have our own machinery,” another beneficiary said.
The handing over of a heavy-duty incubator capable of hatching over 3 000 chicks in 21 days marks a significant step towards promoting women’s participation in agricultural projects.
