THE ZANU PF Midlands Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) has strongly condemned the misuse of social media, urging citizens not to be swayed by individuals seeking to disrupt the nation’s progress.
The ruling party expressed concern over the abuse of the country’s democratic space by those attempting to incite unrest and undermine the government.
The Midlands PCC warned against participating in unsanctioned demonstrations, stressing that such actions could destabilise society.
“We are concerned about certain individuals trying to create division and disharmony in our society. Our stance is clear: leaders are elected through democratic processes, and anything outside that is unacceptable. We call on the public to refrain from participating in unlawful gatherings, as these can harm our society. We also urge law enforcement to stay vigilant and carry out their constitutional duties,” ZANU PF Midlands Provincial Chairperson, Cde Edson Chiherenge said.
ZANU PF Politburo member, Cde Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, also weighed in, emphasising that Zimbabweans should not be influenced by those with malicious intentions who seek to derail the country’s development.
“We are facing a new threat in society; social media. I do not even know where it originated from, but it is being misused by some to organise against a sitting Head of State. We must remain true to our founding principles. The social media space is being exploited by individuals with selfish motives. At the National People’s Conference, we resolved that we want our President to lead national development until 2030 when his vision will be realised. Let us unite and support his efforts,” Cde Mumbengegwi stated.
The ruling ZANU PF party is currently working on a social media policy aimed at ensuring its supporters engage constructively in online discussions without causing divisions within the party or the broader revolutionary movement.
