ZANU PF consults stakeholders on Mines and Mining Amendment Bill

THE ruling ZANU PF party is debating the recently gazetted Mines and Mining Amendment Bill, amid calls for transparency in the allocation and administration of mining sector claims.

In a bid to fully understand the contents of the recently gazetted Mines and Mining Amendment Bill, the ruling ZANU-PF is hosting a two-day Mines and Mining Symposium at the party’s headquarters in Harare.

The two-day symposium, coordinated by Miners for Economic Development, has brought together stakeholders from across the mining sector, including small-scale, artisanal and large-scale miners to air their views and concerns regarding the proposed legislation.

“We are calling for transparency in the mining sector so that everyone benefits from our rich resources. We are saying those with big land must surrender and give to others,” Central Committee member, Cde Happiness Sibanda said.

ZANU PF Secretary for Mines and Energy Development, Cde Paul Mangwana, unpacked the significance of the symposium.

“The idea behind this workshop is to give party members an opportunity to present their input so that they can make informed contributions. When the Bill is presented before Parliament, they will already understand its contents. This is the first time the party is directly interrogating the Bill to foster engagement between the party and legislators,” he said.

Recommendations from the two-day symposium will be consolidated and submitted for consideration as part of ZANU-PF’s input into the national legislative process.
