THE road map to the June 14 National Assembly by-election is progressing well, with ZANU PF concluding its primary elections to select the party’s Insiza North constituency representative.
After the declaration of vacancies in the Gutu East and Insiza North constituencies, the ruling ZANU-PF party has finalised its internal plebiscite.
Cde Moses Langa emerged as the party’s representative in Insiza North after winning Saturday’s primary elections.
Cde Langa prevailed over six other candidates and now awaits the nomination court sitting on May 15.
In Gutu East, Cde Zvarevashe Masvingise will represent the party, having won the primary election held on April 16.
These seats became vacant after the expulsion of former legislator Benjamin Ganyiwa of Gutu North constituency, over disciplinary issues within ZANU PF, and the passing of Cde. Farai Taruvinga of Insiza North in March.
Subsequently, President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced the vacancies, as notified by the Speaker of the National Assembly Advocate Jacob Mudenda, in Proclamation 3 of 2025, contained in Statutory Instrument 44A of 2025.
The party will face opposition candidates, who are expected to file their nominations at the courts on May 15.
The ruling party is targeting to retain the seats, continuing its trend of gaining ground in the National Assembly, including victories in previously opposition-dominated areas.
