PUBLIC-private partnerships continue to bear fruit in the housing delivery cluster of the National Development Strategy One (NDS1), with the West Prop Project launched by President Emmerson Mnangagwa last year now taking shape.
The Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities, Honourable Zhemu Soda this Wednesday visited the project in Harare and was impressed by progress being made in the civil works of the project comprising luxury houses, a golf club and a hotel.
“President Mnangagwa did the ground-breaking in August last year, and from the tour, I am impressed by the road construction, storm drains, and golf weirs. I am confident that this project will contribute immensely towards Vision 2030 to achieve an upper-middle-class society,” the Minister said.
The West Prop Project Hill Luxury Golf Estate dovetails with government’s housing delivery agenda aiming to provide one million houses by 2030.
“As you are aware, under NDS1, we had an initial target to provide 220 000 housing units, but this was reviewed to one million. With the private sector coming on board, we can achieve this target by 2030,” Minister Soda noted.
In another landmark housing development initiative, Nyore Nyore housing scheme, with over 250 000 stands, is taking shape in Harare with over 20 000 civil servants already registered to benefit.
